NDK's technology is integral to the functioning of IoT devices, especially in smartphones and smartwatches that utilize various applications and services. To meet this demand, NDK has developed crystal devices using photolithography technology. For 5G systems, NDK supplies various crystal devices, including high-performance OCXOs (oven-controlled crystal oscillators), to control base stations known as CUs (central units) and DUs (distributed units). Moreover, NDK has developed compact SPXOs (single-ended output crystal oscillators) to capture the growing demand for data centers driven by the proliferation of AI servers.

NDK's crystal devices are used in various products that support your daily life, such as notebook PCs, LCD TVs, game consoles, and household appliances. There is a reason why we can supply mass-produced, high-quality crystal devices for consumer electronics. At NDK's Sayama Plant in Saitama Prefecture, one of the world's largest autoclaves (high-temperature, high-pressure furnaces) for producing synthetic quartz crystal is installed, where about 2 tons of synthetic quartz are produced. Each piece of synthetic quartz crystal produced there is of the same size and quality, and more than 2 million crystal devices can be made from a single piece of synthetic quartz, making it world-class.

Equipment installed in satellites and rockets is required to perform under harsh conditions such as shocks and vibrations during launch, severe thermal fluctuations, and high levels of radiation. NDK is designated by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) as the only domestic certified manufacturer of crystal units and crystal oscillators, demonstrating the superiority of NDK's crystal devices. Additionally, QCM sensors are being explored for use not only in space exploration but also in monitoring semiconductor manufacturing processes.
